In the fall of 2020, I was looking at local auctions online and found a high-top wheelchair mobility van that was to be sold the next day. My father and I ended up attending the auction and “won” the van. After ensuring the mechanical systems were all working, we focused on transforming it into a camper van. This “COVID” project consisted of gutting, repairing, designing, building, and retrofitting the vehicle into a fully functional camper van that accommodates our family of 4 plus our giant dog, Gus. I designed and installed a solar powered 12-volt system, built insulated walls finished in birch, outfitted the interior with LED lighting, and engineered an innovative bed/seat system. This project resulted in safe family explorations of the Northeast throughout the summer!
