Inspired by the work of the maker, N-O-D-E, I wanted to convert a simple Casio F91-W digital watch into a custom watch with a RFID digital business card. To do this I first replaced the extremely small dim green LED with another extremely small but bright white LED. I next took apart the LCD screen and removed the polarizing filter of the LCD. I subsequently replaced this filter with one that I rotated and cut at 90 degrees. This inverted the display producing white numbers on black background. I next ordered a PCB from China to be made using the design files provided by N-O-D-E. This PCB was to act as an antenna and was shaped as the watch face. I then lasercut a new watch face out of scratch resistant acrylic and used a vinyl cutter to apply a paint mask to this new watch face. I then painted this watch face black. Finally, I integrated everything together by removing the old faceplate, replacing it with the PCB antenna, wiring a extremely small RFID chip to this PCB antenna using enamel wires, adding the newly painted acrylic faceplate over the PCB, and closing the whole watch up with the RFID chip in the back. With the actual modifications completed I programmed this watch to display a link or any information stored on the RFID chip onto someone's phone when they tap it. I mainly use this to share my contact details with others.
